With so many options for outdoor furniture available in the marketplace, I would like to offer some basic product knowledge about the materials and construction of these products.

I have been asked why patio sets at the box stores are less expensive than some of the collections we have here in our showroom. At first glance they may look similar. Here are the things to look for when shopping for new outdoor furniture:

  • You always want the frame to be a heavy gauge aluminum as this will not rust. It is important that the aluminum is strong to create a robust, long-lasting frame.
  • If you are purchasing a rattan look product, you need a UV protected resin wicker that is sturdy and will not fade, crack or break. A good quality resin rattan will often be available in different shapes and weaves with variations in colour for added interest and style. Many of our collections are hand woven by skilled artisans.
  • The cushions on any sofa or chair needs to be high quality and a generous depth to provide comfort for many years. Reticulated foam is made to allow water to drain through so the cushions will dry quickly.
  • Look for good quality fabric which is made specifically for outdoor use to avoid fading, mildew and deterioration caused by the sun and elements. The best outdoor fabrics are manufactured with solution dyed acrylics, polyester or olefin.

My best advice is come and meet with the outdoor furniture specialists at Shop The Lake to experience in person the look and feel of our fine quality furniture! We will explain the benefits of our products and show you close-up how these pieces are constructed.
